This summer, we are sharing a series of profiles on our former library interns and alumni of Seattle University School Law. We love to hear what they're up to!

Where do you work and what is your role?

I am the Head of Public Services Librarian at Gonzaga University School of Law’s Chastek Library in Spokane, WA.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I like that every day is different, and I never know what kind of question will come my way next.  I enjoy interacting with patrons and I find it very rewarding when I can help someone find the answers they need.

What did you do before law school, and what led to you pursue a law degree?

Before law school, I was actually planning to become a veterinarian. However, life happens and plans change, and I ultimately decided that I wanted to use my science background in a different way. My interest was initially in intellectual property law, however, I discovered the field of law librarianship in my first year of law school and I knew that was what I wanted to do.

What have you found most valuable during your law school education?

I think the connections I made with the people I worked and went to school with during law school are extremely valuable.  My law school education has also helped me learn, think, and analyze things in different ways, which has been a valuable skill in my work.

What advice do you have for SU students or grads?

As you can see, my plans changed multiple times before settling on a career that I really enjoy.  Don’t be afraid to try new ventures because you might just find something better than you originally planned.

What was your most memorable experience in the library or at SU generally?

I remember I was at the law school when I found out that I got into the law librarianship program at the University of Washington. I was so excited and I could not wait to tell everyone at the library!  I am so grateful for my experience working at the SU law library and everyone who helped and encouraged me in starting my career as a law librarian.
