2Ls have two main tasks as members of a law journal staff. They cite-check and edit articles that are being published by the law journal, and they typically write a note or comment of publishable quality.

3Ls fill the senior editorial staff positions. They are responsible for reviewing and selecting articles for publication, managing the editing process, and assisting the 2Ls in writing notes and comments.
